Shadows in the Sky really has been the definition of a 'fun horse', he was purchased from Ryan Tounge for 3.5k to enter training with James Owen in Newmarket, the horse had been pulled up on his 3 previous starts for his former trainer and owned by an ex no.1 golfer Lee Westwood.
BDR purchased the lad late March 2025 and he was sold in January 2026 for £600 less than we paid, however he's earned a near 20k in prize money, won twice, came second three times and finished third further 4 times, we even made it to a 100k Arc final at Worcester.
The syndicate was formed with 4 shares of 25% thanks to Sid, Kevin, Gary and my wife Zoe who all took a share, we had some craic with winners at a packed Uttoxeter on a summers evening, a winner at Southwell, a place at Cartmel finally winning some famous Sticky Toffee Pudding too! We raced at 9 different tracks over a 9 month period. Shadows didn't take a lame step once, we all had an invite to James Owen summer party and made loads of friends and maybe drank a little to much.
Everyone at BDR wishes Shadows in the Sky the very best of luck as he heads Pointing for his new owners. Very grateful to him for giving us all such sport.
Our horses have been running well this winter: Ebselysees with Noel Williams being just denied at 33-1 at Huntingdon, Bitsnbuckles also just beat at Huntingdon and looked the winner under Sean Bowen at Taunton over Christmas at a packed meeting and a vibrant crowd. He came a gallant 3rd that day with 12st on his back, top weight proving to much in the final run in.
However Bitsnbuckles scored in fine style on Febuary 2nd at Southwell in a 2m 4f 0-120 under Lewis Saunders, it was such a game effort and a career best performance, congratulations to his owners and Olly Murphy who was in great form and had a smile from Southwell to Warren Chase, he is a very likeable trainer full of enthusiasm.
Southwell success with the owners of Bitsnbuckles.
Bitsnbuckles can remain competitive despite a rise in the handicap
Future Runners:
Other than her we have Billy Boi Blue who is a month from a run after a setback; and a lovely Capri filly Don't Tell Zoe who will now be saved for an autumn debut. She is related to 25 winners of which many are top class, she is a nice horse and we're very excited for next season.
Lady Fortune has been disappointing thus far, but we shall wait for some better ground for her next run, Lawsky has been suffering with grade 4 ulcers so we shall get them treated and this reason looks likely for some below par efforts.
Our Order of st George gelding is now 3 and will enter training this summer, and we have two really nice 2 year olds one by Mirage Dancer and another by Walzertact both from strong dam lines so they can something to look forward too.
Driftwood Bounty our hugely promising bumper winner will be back into training this summer after getting a tendon injury, we can't wait to get started.
Of course we had to pop into our local The Angel Inn in Larling for a couple of jars to celebrate after Bitsnbuckles scoring for a second career success.
