Fantastic Owners Morning

Doc El new unbroken 3 yr old

Saturday 15th August a merry band of 20 owners and guests took the opportunity to go to McPherson Racing BDR open morning, hosted by our trainer and gentleman Graeme. The weather held and  atmosphere was buzzing as we all watched 2nd lot work twice up the hill with the breathtaking view surrounding us all.

BDR's Baby Ben and Calum Gilhooley were both on show and looked well, Calum Gilhooley is declared tomorrow (Friday 21st) in the 3.50 at Newton Abbot, Baby Ben really caught the eye. heaps to look forward to there, he is on course for a bumper run when we get some winter ground, a very strong lad. The team noted a few to follow, ate a hearty breakfast and enjoyed the summer air. Thank you to Graeme and Mrs McPherson for hosting us. The yard staff are incredibly polite and we are grateful for their hard work and dedication.

Calum Gilhooley aims for one better tomorrow after his 25-1 silver medal some 17 days ago. Its not a race with huge depth so looks a good opportunity however after some 560 days off we are worried about Calum bouncing. So lets hope he runs well. Graeme reports him in grand form, Calum Gilhooley doesn't do much at home but a win, second from 3 starts suggests he has ability. I plan to go with co- owner Mike Moss.

We purchased a new 3 yr old gelding on our stable day, the team who attended helped decide which one and  he has been Called 'Doc El' after my dear friend Dr. Eldred Williams. let me tell you now if the equine version is half as good as the man watch out as we have a good 'un.

Eldred the man died this year May 9th, he was a good age 86 but we all miss him, he is survived by a family fitting of the man and I hope they monitor our new horses progress.

Doc El has gained many fans under his BDR ownership and I am delighted to say we will be full at this rate by the weekend. Graeme thinks with his flat breeding 'Doc El' will come to hand early and will be ideal bumper then hurdler type. The sire is Fracas and he is only very young in his stud career but is starting to gain winners, one being The Distant Lady for the same yard who is 2/7.

Newton Abbott doesn't get any closer from south Norfolk no matter how hard I look at the map, however lets hope for a fair wind and some smiles on the homeward trip. Fergal's horse carries a double penalty with Max Kendrick taking off 3 lb and riding for his mother to, Tom Lacey's horse hasn't been seen since disappointing on unsuitable ground some 200 days ago, Calum Gilhooley is untried over the longer trip so it sets it up nicely for a 100-1 outsider!

Get in touch if you'd like to more information about our new addition. picture above he looks great.

Good Luck to all Calum Gilhooleys owners and thanks for reading.

Colin
